WOW exactly what I was about to type, Buying extra content is part of Sims, that's a legacy I'm resigned to live with. Being blatantly scammed is another point I'm not willing to submit to.
^This, pretty much.
It is a product, and we can give feedback, just like any other kind of product. (Why else is there a feedback section?)
If EA responds to feedback by having tantrums and throwing everything in the trash and threatening to destroy the product? Then they don’t get my sympathy. Other companies can take feedback and do things for the better. That’s the mature thing to do.
If one doesn’t have a budget to create a game, and needs to shut it down? Then, well, too bad, that’s it. That’s the circle of life, and that’s the risk of having a business and selling products.
I will not buy things for a franchise in fear of losing a franchise, especially if I’m feeling like there may be a serious milking situation going on. I am a customer with limited money, and the company has to decide if they want me or not.
And I have a right to complain about a company’s products and will not be shut up. Freedom of speech, “free market”, and all that.
Want to have my money? Make a good product worth my money, and is done in a good quality and efficient way, and I will give you my money. Simple as that.
If the franchise dies? Not the fans’ fault at all! Fans have supported 1,2, and 3 with little problem according to the company’s financial wallets. Sims 1,2, and 3 were considered successes!
If Sims 4 ends up failing to make as much money in the future? Then the company needs to reflect on what is the reason for this specific game iteration or this particular pack or whatever to be losing money.
In the end: It’s a product I am paying money for, and I (and others) have a right to speak up about the product. If people feel that a product is lacking, then people should speak up why they feel that way. And the company should LISTEN and DECIDE what customers they are willing to lose and which customers they want to keep, and maybe even think about their company reputation as well. (Worst Game Company of the Year didn’t seem to phase this company, though...)
ETA: But even EA has to shape up sooner or later. They did try to improve Dragon Age with Dragon Age Inquisition, for example, after that lackluster Dragon Age 2 (which many fans complained about, of course)...
Now, with Mass Effect... um... maybe next time?
ETA2: If EA decides to not do Sims 5, or keep going in the same direction of taking things out of the base game, or not putting much content in Sims 4 anymore, then they don’t deserve my money nor my sympathy. It’s up to the company to decide on what to do with their product. We will have our opinions on it, and they can take it or leave it.
Luckily, I have other games whose company that provide better service and/or more content. I haven’t played Sims much this year. Sims 4 has greatly disappointed me with that tiny pets SP! I’ve been playing other games (and other media) that have more bang for my buck. I’ll be watching to see if Sims 4 will have more worthwhile packs. If it dies, then that is the company’s fault.
