Get Together didn't slow my game down. The only area that can bog down the game is the Chalet Mansion, as that area is heavily detailed.
You will also hear your computer get hot when it's in the Countryside area, but you can help that by temporily turning fade disctance to low.
So you don't have to avoid it, and can explore it every now and then.
