I have played through the 1st week of the event and got the rewards. This event is a lot of fun (so far anyway) and I am enjoying it a lot. Can't wait for the 2nd week to come. (I also have the raining and snowing inside the house but I had that bug at least a week before this event started.  It did not come into my game because of the event.)  I hope the rest of this is as much fun as the 1st week was. Enjoy doing these events once in a while. Love my Sims!
