Sometimes I hear “Steve”, which is my husband’s name. Is it just me?
I hear that phrase a lot and hear it as "steeb" so yeah, I think we tend to insert things that make sense to us any time there's an issue with clear audibility. We already know we humans do that with basically everything: our minds impose meaning to randomness, or why we see faces in clouds and irregular-patterned wallpaper and so on as mentioned by @GirlFromIpanema above.
Some Sims4 simlish phrases I can even hear in my head because they replay so often, are "Doh dah veppy!" and "Happy I'm frahm!" (happy you're from something? Okay dude, I'm happy for you too!) but that's because there are such a limited number of stock Simlish phrases in 4, compared to 3, that it's like one of those Elmo toys that says the same six phrases over and over again. Gets tiresome fast.
Some are obviously based on English words, "Noom!" (yum, or num!), "newboo hungah!" when feeding a baby (commenting literally "noob hungies!" and then there's "neeb!" meaning a flat no, and "disgufah!" meaning disgusting! as a comment when grossed out by trash or stinky diapers.
