It's been a year or two, but Bob Pancakes was abducted in my game by using the telescope several nights in a row. So you don't have to be a scientist, or didn't. You just have to or had to participate in activities that indicated a desire to meet aliens. It's possible I had the satellite dish if you can get it simply through build/buy. It's been so long, I can't remember.
