I find it boring if my sims have easy access to everything so when it comes to some households they have to go through an "extra step" to get something. For example even though a household could afford it I'll take them to a community lot to use a hot tub rather than just buy it and plop it down.
Also pretty much for all households I take them to a clothing store before giving them a new outfit. And if I feel like it I'll take simoleons so it feels like a purchase.
