This pack adds mermaids who have powers (sing siren songs, summon ocean threat, talk to fish, ect), ocean swimming, beach combing, suntanning, pool floaties, fish traps, island culture (life is different in Sulani to the other Sims worlds), island festivals, collecting sea shells and burried treasure, exploring a cave, snorkling, diving, spearfishing, jet skis and canoes, fishing from canoes, dolphins (3 types of dolphins), conservationist career (branches into marine biologist or conservationist), and odd jobs. - sallycutecat4 years agoNew Ace

My game seems to have gained the most use out of Island Living - but it was also one of the last ones I bought because I thought I would get very little from it as reviews had been unkind to it for 'lacking gameplay and just being locations and stuff'. Locations and stuff happens to be what sells most to me... which I figured out over time.
I agree. Reviews claim it to be having "no gameplay" or "nothing to do" and yet Island Living has added plenty of things to do in my game and I use this pack more than any other pack. I hardly call ocean swimming, playing with dolphins, being a mermaid, suntanning, collecting sea shells, building sandcastles, completing odd jobs, and attending island festivals "nothing to do" and that's not all the features in this pack.
Reviews are especially unkind to mermaids by saying that "mermaids are lacking" because they don't have a skill tree like vampires (who came in their own pack and should have more than mermaids who are an addition to another pack and not the main theme) or for the player not being able to follow the Sim when they go underwater and blatantly ignor the fact that mermaids have powers (which they didn't have in Sims 3). - Seasons, yes. Batuu, no.

That's the one I missed the most when I downloaded base game onto PC and played just base game for a couple months, so it was the very first expansion I downloaded to the computer. - VWoodsong4 years agoSeasoned Ace

I'm the opposite. Batuu yes, Seasons no. ;) But Batuu isn't what I'd want if I could have only one. In fact, my original post in this thread still stands (the part where I said I'd play another game if I could only have one pack in this one). - sallycutecat4 years agoNew Ace

Hi y'all!
The title is the question. If you could have one and only one expansion/game/stuff pack, what would it be?
I'm considering purchasing one, but I don't know how likely it is that I'd get another after that, so I want to make this one count.
I'm not making this a poll because I have no idea how many packs there are.
I suggest you go by which one interests you the most.
To give you an idea of what each expansion pack offers I'll sum up the main themes. I don't own all though so I might miss something, but hope this helps.
Get to Work - 3 active careers (Scientist, Doctor or Detective), Retail (running your own and selling items), and aliens
Get Together - Clubs (can be customised by the player, set criteria to get into club, permitted and prohibited club activies, purchase club perks with club points), DJ and dancing, the world Windenburg.
City Living - City life and apartments, includes festivals and noisy neighbours.
Cats & Dogs - As the title says, cats and dogs -friend and adopt strays or create your own, includes being a veterinarian and seeing to sick cats and dogs.
Seasons - Seasons and weather, holidays (which can be customised by the player) and seasonal activities.
Get Famous - Fame and celibrities (become famous or meet famous Sims), includes paparrazi and fans, and active acting career.
Island Living - Island life (includes Island culture), ocean swimming, beach activities, conservation, and mermaids.
Discover University - University (with classes, homework, assignments, etc), student organisations, degrees, and robots (can be made with the new robotics skill)
Eco Lifestyle - Environmental footprint, Neighbourhood Action Plans (NAPs), generating your own electricity and water, living green or industrial.
Snowy Escape Snow sports (snowboarding, skiing, sledding) and snow world, rock climbing, Hiking, lifestyles, and Japanese culture.
Cottage Living Cottage life, Village errands, village gossip, chickens, llamas, cows, and wild birds, rabbits and foxes. Includes Simple Living lot challenge and grocery shopping.
I have only 2 game packs and 3 stuff packs and don't know much at all about the ones I don't have, so I can not give a list of them. I found Carl's Sims guide website to be good at showing what's in each pack although I can not find his guide on Dream Home Decorator. - atreya334 years agoLegendIf I had to choose just one among all categories of packs then it would be realm of magic.
If I have to choose per category :
EP: get together, closely followed by seasons
GP: realm of magic
SP: laundry day, closely followed by tiny living - netney524 years agoSeasoned AceIf it’s only 1 pack then seasons I didn’t even buy sims 4 until I knew seasons was out. If it’s 3 then I’ll go with my original bundle I bought with the game seasons, parenthood and laundry day. Albeit these are not my favourite packs but are must haves in my game.
- I own everything, but I couldn't live without Get Together and the club system. I could not live without it. Putting your sims in clubs changes the way the whole game operates. I have sims in clubs with their families so they do chores together or to make sure the parents are helping with homework. I have clubs of gangs and bullies so I see them out and about picking on certain other clubs. I have a club of Karens that run around complaining to "managers" at coffee shops, in which case the managers are also a club that can't be mean back to the Karens club. It's a whole thing. But I love that pack the most out of all of them because this one system is a total game changer. It really makes the world come alive.
- Isharell4 years agoSeasoned AceEP: Cottage Living, or Island Living. Both are so pretty, and give a different vibe to the game. I like to send my sims to Sulani for a day to get a tan. :D I know many love Seasons but really disliked it. I've only started to appreciate it in conjunction with Cottage Living - they go well together (although I still delete most holidays). GP: Vampires is the best, and Batuu adds something really different to the game. ;) SP: Nifty Knitting (I love the Knitting and Plopsy is so great for making money). I also really liked Tiny Living. I don't have Paranormal yet, but I hear it's great. Kits: Toss up between Country Kitchen, the Moroccan pack and the Industrial pack.
