Ehh I don't mind some comparison as long as it doesn't get ugly. I did love the first game when it was out. The needs were impossible though and to enjoy the game aspects I had to rely on mods eventually. It was about time management and I guess all along even though that want wasn't focused I wanted it more to be about live story telling. Sims 2 the same thing for me, loved it when it was out bought every pack (didn't like every pack). Again I needed to mod it eventually and spent more time modding and searching than playing it. During the long dry spell that was Sims 3 .. which I disliked for a whole lot of reasons, I would play Sims 2 and eventually I started getting tired of it. I think feeling left behind by the franchise might have added to that. Last few times I tried to load it up before Sims 4 was released I'd play it a few hours without mods.. poke around and then close it out it just didn't hold my interest. Now my computer won't run it but I doubt I'd stay in there very long if it did. If I compare them I can come up with many, many things I personally like better in 4 than in 2.
I think many people are feeling what I felt during my Sims 3 dry spell... and since we are so much more media based the dislike seems way louder. Add to that the game has gone in different directions. It will alienate folks .. I was alienated with 3. Many are alienated now for many reasons due to nostalgia and their game play styles.. even what they have come to expect and how things look can grow on you. I think my few years away from the sims actually makes this one that much better for me. Maybe if 2 had been still great to me when I started it up .. If I was physically playing it still regularly I would compare things differently.
When Sims 5 does come out if they go back to some of the things that especially Sims 3 players loved it will be the same cycle all over again. It will be wonderful to many and terrible for others. Complaints.. same but different. I know if I don't like it I won't waste my energy there. That's me though and I'm entitled to that choice.
