I don't see why you would be filled with anger by people that are "quick to defend it". This is a Sims 4 forum area. There are people that play the game that actually enjoy it. I know it's terribly hard to comprehend if you have issues with the game but.. it is what it is. I played the first two versions of the game and some console games also early on... so yes I know about the past. I experienced it all as it came out. The same as I'm experiencing this game.
I'm assuming by watching the video you are talking about missing content. This game isn't finished yet.... so why would I be angry or upset that we don't have things like snow or University ect.. they are things that are still to come. I think I'd have a coronary if I focused on needing everything right now other than enjoying the ride.
The things I like about this game off the top of my verses past versions. It looks a heck of a lot better than in the past. The animations are more fluid. It sounds better. Multitasking. I have more control over my sims and their world. I have easy access to change my buildings with the push of a button in most cases. The content that they have brought in is to me much better and almost always more fleshed out than in the past games. I'm just wanting more of it. Am I making you upset by typing this? Do a little yoga (one of things thats much better this time around by the way) It reduces blood pressure I hear.
There is some content is missing that I don't believe will ever come to Sims 4. I also don't think it will ever make it back in future games if it stays geared to be acceptable to a teen or below audience. Like I loved things like cake dancing. I loved the eerie and scary sounds in the Sims 1. I miss Mrs Crumplebottom. I did love Sims 2 also but .. at this point I don't even want to start it up. I use to want too. I would miss too much from this version.
You don't have to defend the game. We all have a different opinion about it. It's nice that you like it, but does it matter to you that some don't? Discontented Simmers get angry when some are quick to defend the game, because their negative opinion is theirs and your positive opinion is yours. They don't want to be convinced to like the game because this person likes A and B and that person likes C and D. Discontented Simmers just want to get their feedback out there to be heard. Well at least that's what I want and how I see it. Of course I can't speak for all the unhappy Simmers out there.
Now do I think TS5 will revive this franchise?
No. EA doesn't care about this franchise anymore. Only about the easy profit it makes. I used to have hope and trust, but they totally damaged it. I don't think we'll ever get our perfect The Sims game.
You are absolutely right we all have a different opinion about it.. and the OP indicated his in his first post. He did mention he gets angry at people "quick to defend" and why.... I replied. So what?
My positive opinion of the game is mine and I can be heard just as loudly as long as I remain on topic. I think for me speaking my positives of the game let's me be heard also.. it is my feedback.. Should I remain quiet if I'm happy with it? What if people want it changed in ways I don't feel is appropriate for my game play style. What if I don't speak up then? Will people say oh no one said they liked that, or everyone agreed they disliked this. What if I enjoy the changes that have been made in this iteration and want them to continue?
I'm not set on changing any minds what so ever. I believe that for the most part people that dislike the game at this point will have a hard road ever being pleased by it. I'm just here.. one voice saying that I enjoy it in various ways. Why would that upset you? Does your opinion count more than mine because you are dissatisfied and I am satisfied?
Just so you know...
The reason i said what i said, or feel what i feel is because i cant comprehend why people want to show EA / Maxis that it is acceptable to make such watered down, simplified childish games thats lack so many options, have dumber sims and horrible story progression. i dont completely bash the sims 4, i have stated what i felt are positives also elsewhere in this thread. i just refuse to be silent and watch the sims franchise be wittled down to mediocre expansion packs and an endless sea of stuff packs. i've always bought all the sims games, DLC, etc. without question or regret. but i refuse to spend another penny on this game just to sit back and watch it be destroyed. i really want to see the sims 4 become better. i'm just sick of being disappointed and dont believe it will. and i'm not at all sure that they even care about the series anymore. until it does, im just gonna sit back and fight for the future and hope we are heard in the next version of the sims.
there is nothing wrong with being happy with your game, but to totally worship it and encourage it as its being destroyed, i just dont get it. guess i care to much, but i wont for much longer at the rate this games going.
And that is your opinion. I can't help that you can't comprehend people like me. It's okay I'm not trying to change your mind. I'm just letting you and others know I disagree. The premise of the thread wasn't if you agree with me .. speak up, if you don't stay out. If it had been I would have stayed out of it. I did notice you edited how the thread was worded from one day to the next and I believe it was more challenging before. Either way, I was invited into this thread by the"check out this video and tell me again why the sims 4 is so great"
I can tell by your words that you see people like me that enjoy the game and support it are helping it to be "destroyed", but feel free to disagree with that. I'd love to be proven wrong there. I don't totally worship the game but it has given me more enjoyment than the past games.. and yes I played from the very first one... shortly after the base game hit in fact. I didn't enjoy Sims 3 ... so I gave up on it and moved on for some years. I think Sims 4 brought the game back for many simmers, and many new simmers. I definitely don't speak for everyone and I'm well aware of that. I don't believe it's being destroyed because it brings me enjoyment and is much more advanced to me than the sims games I played and loved.
I think the OP might not mean they are actually angry at people who love a game they find lacking, but rather the defending and turning a blind eye to aspects where it clearly is lacking (or where EA is lacking, that’s not even the same thing sometimes). It is totally possible to love something and still see flaws. By constantly denying those flaws nobody’s helping this franchise.
I remember there was a very negative, hostile vibe going on here in 2016 for instance when people would complain about there being no toddlers. Meaning people were literally hushed with immediate nasty, unfriendly gifs (before anyone could say something sensible) and the issue was even referred to as “the T-word” at one point. There being no toddlers in Sims 4 was indefensible, whether you liked Sims 4 or not. But this constant defending (“toddlers are annoying anyway”, “just enjoy what you have”) was very frustrating for people who just wanted to keep sharing their discontent over that. And it had absolutely zero to do with whether they liked the new game or not. That’s another vibe around here: if you have criticism you must hate the game. That’s simply not true, a lot of criticism in fact comes from people who do love the game, they just refuse to defend what doesn’t deserve to be defended.
And is a thread about being angry at people... other simmers even constructive or within the rules of the forum? Is being mocking and reducing people that enjoy the game to something one dimensional constructive?
I personally don't turn a blind eye to faults although I do get the insinuation that I might. I have them in my game. I usually chose not to dwell on them if other aspects give me more satisfaction and pleasure. It makes life more pleasant and I enjoy that. I also chose not to post about them here in the forum when the thread is caustic, mocking or denigrating in tone. I may even mirror that tone back, it comes naturally to me and .. well seems to strike a nerve sometimes. I do post about faults in other types of threads though.. the type that are more about solutions or being constructive or even rooted in the reality of the current games possibilities and less about anger.
I also remember the toddler time quite well. And I remember it quite differently than you do. I remember any content with the game would be met be the same tactics you mentioned. Rolling eye gifs... Laughter and mocking if you enjoyed the game. Spammed threads about toddlers that filled up the general section. I mostly remember a tone that said if I can't enjoy it you shouldn't enjoy it. I remember one thread in particular sprung up just so "happy" players could breath freely. One.. thread... I see the remnants of that "fight" still lingering today actually. Right now even.
I'm glad the forums have changed.. at least a little.
I get what you mean. I've had similar issues as someone not enjoying the game, with generalizations and a them vs us mentality. I get it and it is tiring.
I didn't come here until right around when CL was released so I don't know anything about how it was before, but I am glad it isn't what is described. It can be bad enough as it is.
Honestly it is just the internet and life when I look around 90% of the people here are just fine in my books it's just a small group from each side that really is dragging the rest of us down. :/ I think both sides get their fair share of shutdowns though, it isn't one way or the other. Certain categories are pron to attracting certain people but on the whole it is rather balanced between positive and negative imo.
I'm so tired of there being "sides" and the sterotyping/generalizing and the vague sweeping statements about people on on here. Again though that seems to be a pattern in life.
Also no this thread isn't really that constructive in my opinion, the only reason I'm still reading it is because I'm bothered by the yellow number beside it.
