The reason this sexual orientation feature was added is to support inclusiveness. It’s open to everyone to do whatever they want with it.
Does this mean that the sexual orientation of some of these households must be retroactively changed? I get the argument and it wouldn’t bother me in the slightest if their orientation was changed. At the same time I don’t think it should be changed. Keep it open, regardless of what the household description says. Everyone’s Heckings are different:
But is there really a point in letting it stay that way, though? I understand that in the sims, breaking apart marriages is possibly the funniest and most dramatic thing you can do since it's all a game (I do it all the time), but breaking apart same sex marriages in order to replace them with opposite sex ones has actual real world implications regardless of why you've done or let it happen.
It invokes the very idea and belief that same sex relations are inherently inferior to opposite sex ones and must either be prevented or removed. One that has until recently permeated the very features of this game, and is still apparent throughout the world. There is something existentially horrifying about having to ask for actual representation in a game that's supposed to be inclusive only for other people to say it's unnecessary to do so.
The Heckings are married. No one, either male or female, is coming between them unless you let it happen. That time they happened to flirt with a female, maybe next time a male will take their fancy. Their marriage is no more superior or inferior than other marriages regardless of their sexual orientation.
