My two aren't precisely cottages, but I took images from the 18th century colonial America and decided to give them a go. All I had was the outside to go on.
A semi-shotgun, camel-back style farmstead:

(I have play-tested this one a bit and have since added a backdoor.)
And the other one, while narrow, is what I'd be inclined to call a forerunner to the rambling ranch style house of today:

These were both built on the 40 X 30 size lots. I've since seen the map another player shared and I'll likely either rebuild or remodel to fit a larger lot.
