When you are on the first page in your discussion, you can see the options wheel through which you can edit the post.
Here's an example from one of my discussions:
You can go ahead and before edit, quote posts, copy/cut the text from the new comment window, and then paste it to the edit. Here's another example from me:

Tip. I'd also suggest using spoilers thing you can choose under formating options. It also helps to save room.
