Suddenly Having Lots of Alien Abductions

Recently, this family of Sims I've been playing for generations have been plagued with alien abductions, and it's getting a bit annoying. I don't want my Sims to get abducted, and I don't want my Sims getting impregnated with alien babies (even though they are quite cute). I don't understand why this is happening to my Sims recently, because I've been playing these generation of Sims for ages and had nothing like this until recently. I did have a Sim who was in the Astronaut career, and once she travelled to Sixam. I have a feeling the alien abductions started around then. Does anyone have any suggestions about what might be going on? Is this just random?
P.S. My Sims haven't moved lots since my Astronaut Sim moved in (she died a long time ago), as I'm waiting for my two male Sims (one of whom got abducted and impregnated) to finish university and then move them somewhere else.

One of my sims recently got abducted and he was a teacher - nothing to do with aliens, rocket science, science, or any of that so sometimes I think it is just random. I have never been able to cancel it either. If they get pregnant and I don't want the alien baby - I just send it back to Sixam.

Yes, I know that's an option, but I wouldn't have been able to do it in this save since it's a challenge where I can only control one Sim. The only time I'm allowed to click on the parents is to get them a job at the beginning, pay bills and put out fires. I know it's my game, my rules, etc., etc., and I could send the alien nooboo back anyway. But when I play challenges, I try to strictly follow the rules. Plus, as mentioned before, alien babies are VERY rare as a result of abductions in my game so even if I were allowed to send them back, I probably wouldn't do it. Thanks for mentioning it though. :)

As for canceling the action when an abduction starts, I've never tried it. BUT, I did read in a thread somewhere that in addition to canceling the action and resetting your Sim, you can also try to quickly lock all the doors. I guess that sometimes works. Maybe try locking all the outside doors when your Sims go to sleep for the night? Just an idea...I might try that if the aliens try to abduct the Dad in my above mentioned save again.
