You can take them into the realm of magic and talk to one of the sages there. That way you can become a spellcaster

Or you can use cheats.

Yes, as other have said:
1. Take your sim to the Realm of Magic (locate the portal in Glimmerbrook and enter it) and ask one of the sages about magic. You'll then have to collect and deliver some motes to them and then your sim will become a spellcaster.
2. With testingcheats turned on, enter this cheat:

traits.equip_trait trait_Occult_WitchOccult

So don't give up there! The only occults your sim cannot become are aliens and servos. The rest your sim can become.

Thank you friend!! I appreciate it I got so upset ? I’m making the charmed cast to go with their home I just built & I spent an hour on piper & completely forgot to make her a witch I was so heart broken I ended up starting my all over again my heart was shattered it just doesn’t make sense to me why sims is doing us like this… like it should not be that complicated but thank you sm for the info I’m sure it will help in the future. Actually, you can make an Alien Occult. It's easy, just type in:
Traits.Equip_Trait Trait_OccultAlien

Or better yet to add Alien powers to all occult just type in:
Traits.Equip_Trait Trait_OccultAlien_FakeAlien

That's what I do with all my Occults.

Oh, & you don't need mods just the packs.
And have fun with your wonderful powerful sims. ;) :p

It is possible possible to easily turn a sim into a spellcaster in gameplay but I often miss the option to change a sim's occult status in CAS when making a new sim.

I sometimes start a sim, then change my mind and want them to be an occult. Saving them, going into the game, cheating the occult state, enabling cas.fulleditmode and then going back into cas is just a hassle. This was more practical in sims 3 where you could simply switch during the creation of a new sim.

Frustration notwithstanding, I do agree it would be nice if we could change a sims Occult status in CAS when we're initially creating them.

You have to work for it, sorry.
Either that or use cheats.

Yes, with cheats, any occult is possible. Even hybrids are possible that way, though they may be glitchy...

Particularly a spell caster-vampire combo where there would be 2 powers screens to deal with. That just might choke the game & could be why it's not in game possible.
