When I play with toddlers I kind of assume I have to take care of them as the main sim or the one being controlled. I have them click on the nanny or butler and ask for things also like food or help with training or playing with something. I don't play with them often but when I do no one is starving and they are advancing pretty well.
I don't use high chairs though unless I watch them like a hawk.
I play with autonomy off for the sim I'm controlling but on for everyone else in the household. I have one household where I'm bringing up an evil little one and a good one.. it's interesting..
So are you playing with autonomy on and just watching?
hmm interesting tip. :)
I've often wished I could do the opposite - have all my Sims with autonomy off, except for the one I'm controlling. I'd like to be able to let my toddler do whatever she wants (with intervention when necessary) and not worry what the rest of my Sims are doing (probably raiding the fridge, since that's what Sims do). I know I miss out on some fun stuff Sims will do if left to their own devices, but you can't always tell what they're doing unless you have that Sim selected.
Even if you have autonomy off for all Sims, the 'check toddler' interaction comes up quite frequently (usually because the kid needs food and toilet, and I'm sending her to the toilet first because otherwise, the toilet isn't going to be necessary). That can cancel things you had in your toddler queue. Without the high chair, a toddler can't ask for food or drink, but the parent will, if the child is very hungry, autonomously give the kid a drink. (You can't tell them to do it, however.)
