lemme be completely honest. because if i can't say it on a Sims forum and be understood, chances are there's NO place i can say it...
i hate toddlers.
no, not REAL toddlers, mind you-- i love them to a fault. but sim toddlers? easily the absolute worst age group next to sim babies.
now before you say anything, i can at least tell you i think i've finally figured it out since it used to baffle me as to why this is the case. recently, i was at the walmart and heard a baby crying and it made my heart melt. i mean i wanted nothing more than to find him and hug him and comfort him. it was automatic. i didn't care whose it was, i just needed to hold it. same thing happens when i walk past a toddler sitting in a shopping cart and i give them a little wave and they wave their tiny chubby fingers back and grin a toothless grin. instant aww.
and that's when it hit me, that's when i knew why my paternal instincts weren't firing up in-game. sim toddlers and babies just don't look or sound like real toddlers or babies. they elicit no empathy in me because they are a loop of animations and voice acting. older sims have personality traits that help humanize them plus they have a level of autonomy. but sim toddlers and babies are generic kill-joys that suck away gameplay time with their neediness and decidedly uncute interruptions.
sorry. again, not trying to be a jerk. i really have thought long and hard about this, because i love children and my reaction to sim babies and toddlers has always bothered me.
