I always find it so hard to vote. I don't play packs, I play out stories...
At this point I am no longer interested in exploring my game without a weather system, but that doesn’t make Seasons my favourite pack...although it is definitely ONE of my favourites. I'm also an adventure player, which means that my sims travel a lot and for that I need many interesting packs to make it work.
Here are the best packs in my opinion:
Spoiler
- Werewolves - added much needed OOMPH to my game. Werewolves are intense, powerful and above all, barking mad. I Love the RPG system and the world, although I wish the latter was bigger with more densely wooded areas to explore. I’m in love with the grungy BB items.
- Vampires- Again, great RPG system. Forgotten Hollow is a small but gorgeous world. Being able to create a Dark Form in CAS is one of the many great things I can enjoy about this pack. I use the build items extensively: the cracks and spiderwebs are in 99% of my builds and these go perfectly with the Werewolves & Jungle Adventure cracks and the Strangerville stains.
- Jungle Adventures - I really love this pack for its world, the archaeology skill and gameplay & items inspired by Mesoamerican cultures. Contrary to popular opinion I appreciate quest related packs. I treat most quest as side quests for they are part of a much bigger and deeper story, so I never rush through them just to get them done.
- Realm of Magic - Although I wish this gamepack was more fleshed out, I no longer want a game without magic & spellcasters. In terms of aesthetics, familiars are wonderful little things, in terms of gameplay functionality, not so much. The raven is my favourite. I also appreciate the fact that Cats and Dogs can be familiars.
- Strangerville - Strange and wonderful. Honestly I'd love more of these kind of experimental packs. The Strangerville mood is very prominent in all of my saves. It is a pity that the most interesting packs receive so much backlash from the simming community because "NO ONE ASKED FOR THIS!!!!". I will ask for more of this. Always.
- Journey to Batuu- Dito. Love it. Now, I'm a Star Wars appreciator, although I find it very easy to take everything JtB related beyond Star Wars. Firstly , CAS is excellent for both historical fantasy and SciFi saves. Secondly, the JtB debug catalogue is fantastic and offers plenty for Medieval, Steampunk, and Spacecraft builders like meself. Thirdly, Scoundrels & Sabacc. Nuff said.
- Paranormal- I always forget that this is a stuff pack. The attention to detail is sublime. Haunted Mansions, eccentric mediums and skeletal maids: it's what my game needs and it's what my game needs more of. We wants expansion packs full of creepy and creepier stuff!
- Cottage Living - For starters, the beautiful area surrounding Henford feels a bit like home. I also have rabbit and bird stumps on plenty of my off-the-grid lots. The visiting foxes and simple living lot traits are among my most favourite. I'm also delighted that as a werebeast I can now devour chickens.
- Snowy Escape - The mountain summit is one of the best places to "live". My reclusive mountaineers and adventurers are able to survive there quite happily. The only thing I wish is that we could descend from the mountain in stages.
- Get Together- Windenburg, Build Buy and the clubsystem is something I can no longer do without.
- Cats & Dogs - I love Brindleton Bay, especially Deadgrass Isle. My most interesting hermits live on Deadgrass Isle. In real life I would like to live and die on Deadgrass Isle, I'm dead serious. Create a Pet is probably the most intuitive CAS tool of all CAS tools across the entire franchise. I also get great pleasure from creating wolves.
- Eco Lifestyle - I've never done a NAP in me life. I do however love off-the grid gameplay and use many of the items related to this feature: the beetle farm, the candle maker station, the mills, the dew collectors, the brewery, the meat wall, the generators and more. Plus, I use a cheat to perma-industrialize some of my apocalyptic worlds. I'm all for setting the mood, especially when it includes acid rain.
- Island Living. All my scoundrels, pirates, castaways and mermadic tribes must live on the remote islands near the vulcano. I truly wish it had underwater lots, but other than that IL is a wonderful expansion.
