One of the things that bothers me is using "analysts" to improve gameplay. I don't care how adept a person is at analytics, if they've never played a Sims game, they won't get it. That is what I feel is one of the major problems with development...it doesn't feel like there's much familiarity with the things that give a Sims game longevity. They could have a gazillion play testers but if those people don't actually play this game for the long term, they can't pinpoint where the deeper issues are, or why some of the programming gets redundant.
I think what EA really needs is a "player council", so to speak. A small community of actual players who represent a variety of play styles, chosen to give honest feedback to the company. I know they have their game changers on YouTube, but this would be a larger group, made up of the "every man" simmer. The feedback would be less about celebrity and more about representation and critical assessment. I play an online game that actually did something like this and I think it made a world of difference. Each year they change the "council" to keep perspectives fresh.
