a bunch of random folders + cc doesn't work

i'm currently having an issue with my entire sims 4 folder consisting of JUST random folders with names like "EP01", "GP04", "FP01", and so on. not a single other folder except those (NO normal folders like "cache, saves, mods, etc. " . i copied all my other files from my other drive after completely uninstalling and reinstalling and dragged them into where it was installed, ignoring those other folders. nothing works, no sim saves, and no cc. when i delete all these folders it makes me completely reinstall the sims. I've tried repairing it; however, it does absolutely nothing for it. i delete all files, make a new folder, and reinstall. yet still, i get all those files. when i drag my mods folder in not a single one works. the entire game is broken and I'm not really sure how to fix it. so, if anyone could help i'd be very grateful <3

for a backstory on a possible cause: i originally had sims installed on my pc. then, i got an external hard drive and moved everything over. everything was working and completely fine for months. however, i recently then installed my old hard drive from my old PC onto my current one (onto the same PC I've been using the entire time). ever since then, it's been very broken.

  • @av97y4awi2zr  When you play Sims 4, you get two "The Sims 4" folders on your computer.  One contains the game's program files, as in, the data that Origin or the EA App installs and that's the same for all players.  That's the folder you're looking at, and yes, if you delete its contents, you'll need to reinstall the game.  The contents you've described are normal: each pack you install gets its own folder, labeled by type and release order.  EP01 corresponds to Get to Work, the first expansion pack EA released.

The folder you're looking for is the Sims 4 user folder, and it's always in Documents > Electronic Arts.  Installing the game on an external drive won't change that.  There are two key details here.  One is that this folder won't appear until you launch Sims 4 for the first time.  The other is that the folder may land in a different Documents folder than the one you're looking at, for example it might be in OneDrive's version of Documents.  You can find the full file path to this folder in-game:

If you want to make sure you're opening the correct folder, open a File Explorer window and click This PC in the left panel, then open C > Users > your username, and proceed from there.
