All my files aren't showing up in game but they're still on my pc

My pc is a custom gaming pc I bought second hand...but it's total crap and has no storage space on it so I need an external drive for *everything*. I have the download path on EA set to the external drive and have all my mods and game files on the drive version of documents...sims 4...etc. It worked fine for years. Now all of a sudden my files aren't showing up in the game? It's like a brand new game. I still have all my files but I'm wondering if they're in the wrong spot??? Idk how to figure that out though bc I had to change file destinations due to my pc's crap storage.

  • @hqki7iehwjsh  Does the drive that has your Sims 4 data have the same drive letter assigned to it as it used to?  You can see the drive letters for all connected devices in a File Explorer window; click This PC to see them.  If the external with your content has a different letter, the symbolic link it sounds like you're using will point to the wrong location.

If you're not sure what you're looking at, please post a screenshot of the contents of the Sims 4 folder that has your saves and other user files in it.  Include the address bar, above the list of files and folders, in the screenshot.  Please also let me know where the symlink points, or if you just moved the entire Documents directory, what its current location is; you can see that by right-clicking on Documents and selecting Properties > Location.

Yeah they’re on my external hard drive. Both my sims game and the mods. Same folders and destinations just on my external drive and I did that years ago and it’s been working fine and now all of a sudden the game is like brand new but they’re still in my files. So idk

Not sure if you've already checked this, but are CC and mods enabled in game menu? Might have been disabled in an update. Maybe also make sure your mods are definitely under ...Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods and not more than one subfolder deep within the mods folder?

    Also clearing cache might help, here's a how-to: https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/help/cache.php
