I know the sims 4 build mode is so bad sims 2 and 3 had a way better way. if you didn't want a floor or wall just hold control and trace over it with the wall or floor tool. Now you have to use the stupid sledgehammer tool which only delete 1 wall at a time or all the floor in the room why did they have to change something that wasn't broken in the first place.
This works the same in The sims 4. The sledgehammer is just an additional tool.

CTRL+Click does not allow me to remove a single floor tile or tile(s) in TS4, it's almost as if the functionality has been deleted altogether.

@TheMeganSims Yes, flooring deletion and replacement of tiles in Sims 4 does work a bit differently than in previous Sims titles. Please check the beginning of this comment (comment #4 on this thread) for an explanation of how it works in Sims 4: https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion-Feedback/Cannot-Delete-Individual-Floor-Tiles/m-p/7986889#M13857

Try placing a fence around the entire
area you wish to delete, including stair opening. This should create a new "room" so to speak. You can now delete the floor within this area easily and then remove the fencing if you wish to have open space.
