I have to admit that I didn't read the message so I'm not sure what they said but could you post a screenshot of the task you're currently seeing ?
Are you using mods/cc ?
Here's screenshots of the tasks in order how I got them. Maybe it makes it clearer where it went wrong for you.

Thanks for reminding me of that! I removed TOOL mod and the option to ask the elder appeared. :)
