Cant cook after Cottage Living installed

I just bought and installed Cottage Life and Dream Home Decorater. I also bought Cottage Life for my friend's birthday. 

Today we both tried to play (she is using a mac, and I'm using PC) when we attempted to cook at the fridge. We have counters, a stove and nothing is obstructing the way. There is also nothing hanging above the stove. 

However, when clicking on the fridge > cook, all options are greyed out. I thought maybe this was a new thing so I had my Sim learn level 1 cooking. Still unable to cook (even a garden salad). My friend is having this same issue. 

We ironically both picked the two bedroom home from the new map for cottage life. 

I attempted to fix the issue by leaving the lot and coming back. It was not successful. 

I attempted to reset each sim in my household (there are 4, two adults and 2 children). This also did not work. 

I restarted the game, this did not work

I right clicked and attempted to repair the game. This also did not work. 

Does anyone know any solutions or what we're doing wrong? I saw we can get groceries delivered in cottage life, is that required to cook now? (Which would be quite annoying to be frank). 

Any help or tips/tricks are appreciated 

My friend, I believe has all the expansions. 

I only have: Cottage Life, Seasons, Pets, and Discover University.
