@crochetpianist It sounds like you may have a corrupt or outdated mod. Start by removing any mods that change the user interface (e.g. UI Cheats) or any by TwistedMexi, and delete localthumbcache.package as well. If that doesn't help, or you don't have those mods, move the entire Mods folder to the desktop and test.
If the game is back to normal, you can start adding back your mods and testing. Depending on how many mods you have, it might be easier to download fresh copies of any that are listed as compatible with the current patch (1.89) and go from there.
If you see the same issue with no mods present at all, try repairing the game: open your Origin game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Repair.

@crochetpianist Did you try repairing the game? Does this happen if you load a different, never-played household within the same save, or a different save entirely?

i repaired my game multiple times. taken out all mods. the fn + f5 doesn’t work. it keeps happening. so confused and it’s sucks balls ☹️
