can't open sim's action menu

I'm not sure if any one else is having this problem or if its just me but...all of the sudden i can't click on my sim anymore?! just for a little more background: I was playing all day and everything was fine up until my sims went to school. Once she came back I wasn't able to click on her and open up the actions/interactive menu. I'm still able to interact with other sims and I can still shift click my sim to bring up the "cheat" menu, but other than that I can't really interact with my sim by click. 

does anyone know what's going on or can help me fix this??
