CC won't download?

So, I love CC. However, with the Sims 4, I'll often try to download something, the download popup thing will suggest I open it with SimPE (which I still have installed because I still play the Sims 2 and I have to have it to use recolors of items, correct?), and when I tell it to open it with WinRAR so I can put it in my Mods folder, I get an error message telling me that it's either in an unknown format or damaged. Here are screenshots, just add an extra slash after http:/.

This happens whenever I try to download hair, clothing, or accessories off of TSR or most of the sites linked from mysims4blog. Furniture usually works correctly. Mod The Sims always works correctly, but I'd like more of a selection then just what they offer. This happened with the TS3, too, it's just a lot worse with TS4. It's done this for as long as I can remember, since before I installed SimPE (before then it just asked me to select a program and then I'd get the error message when I selected WinRAR). Is there any way to fix it and get all of my CC to install normally? I'm getting really tired of this.

  • You're just getting your file formats confused and then doing it wrong. Note that the download is .package - package files don't get opened, at all, unless you are trying to edit the contents. Package files just get dropped into the Mods folder as they are. :)

You would only need to open the download in WinRAR if it was a .RAR file. (Or optionally .zip, although Windows can handle .zip files just fine.)

Thank you! So I drag them straight from the downloads folder?
  • If they are package files, yep. :) If they are compressed, then you will have to extract them with WinRAR etc first to get the .package files out.

Also, not to confuse matters more, but I've ran across a few mods (actual mods, not custom content) that are supposed to actually stay in their .zip. The creators clearly state if that is the case, though.

Lastly, if you download any lots or sims, you'll get a zip file full of other "random" files - you extract the random files, and they go into the "Tray" folder rather than "Mods."
