I'm having this problem too. If I close my game and clear my cache, it fixes the problem temporarily. After playing for a bit, my toddlers and children refuse to eat. They just sit there staring at their food and resetting them doesn't work.
@Ambergers Do you have mods or CC in your Mods folder? If so, do a "vanilla" test to see if a mod/CC is your problem: Move (not copy) the Mods folder to the desktop (or rename it), delete the file called localthumbcache, open the game to test, and exit without saving.
