disappearing ui/game freezes

Basically, if I go to change my sims outfit they remain in the same outfit and their ui completely disappears. This disappearing glitch spreads to the rest of my household even if I haven't changed their outfits and soon my entire ui for the entire household disappears, excluding my infant + pets. If I try to save my game I get stuck with the dial spinning eternally, and if I try to travel to another lot or out of CAS then I get stuck on the loading screen. 

I updated all mods that have something to do with ui and played without my mods and the issue persisted. 

I tried to replace my save folder thinking it had something to do with my saves and played with only one save file but the issue persisted, and I tried to play without my tray folder but the issue remained. I repaired my game, I even uninstalled and reinstalled the Sims 4 + all purchased DLC and the issue persisted. 

The game is unplayable since I can't save it and I can only play on the lot that my recent save loads into. 

Any help is appreciated. 

EDIT: and my game is updated to the latest patch

    I did the 50/50 method and narrowed it down to any custom content that has something to do with CAS does not allow my game to load in. All my other mods work perfectly fine and the glitch goes away if CAS custom content is not in game but that's unplayable for me so I'm going to wait for EA to come out with a patch or for other players with the same issue to come forth with their solution. But in the meantime, for others having this issue it's CAS-cc related.

    Try the following

    • Close the game
    • Rename Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old
    • Start the game. All your content will be gone now as the game created a new folder. All your saves/.. is still in the old folder so not to worry
    • Start a new save game
    • Check if you still have the error
    • Report back with your results for further steps on how to get your stuff back.

    @JllGreen Hey, I'm having the exact same problem. It is so frustrating because my game was working perfect with all my mods and cc.  I'm able to play for a bit, hours even, then it will happen.  I don't' save, exit the game, delete the usual files in the sims folder, can play for a bit then it happens again. I thought it was related to custom bathtubs, but it happens even when my sims don't bathe, they all get stuck in their current outfit, and their UI and thumbnail picture disappears.  I'm wondering if it's related to the last small update because it only started happening after that I feel. 

    BTW, What do you mean by "CAS-cc related items? like clothing/accessories/hair cc? I hope they come out with a fix soon.  It's crazy that more people aren't' having/reporting this issue.

    Hey, I'm experiencing the exact same now. I thought I fixed it by removing a UI "fixer" which overrides the sims ui faces when they make emotions and make it more realistic, but then the glitch occurs into hours of me playing, so it's something that I'm just having to work around. 

    When I was doing the 50/50 method, I realized that by taking out all of my custom content that related to cas (like hairs, clothes, accessories, teeth, etc) that would make the sims load and change their outfits, and even sims who were invisible populated again. I even played with a new save for like 3+ hours with no custom content on, and the glitch never happened (maybe it would've if I played for longer but I'm not sure), so I figured it has something to do with cas-related cc. That's unplayable for me since I heavily rely on cas-cc to make my sims how I want them, but that's what I figure it is. 

    I'm seeing a lot more people have this issue in some youtuber's discord so hopefully it gets more attention and we get a patch pretty soon.
