Erasing suggested household in Scenarios erased all saves

Hi,

I am in complete shock, I believed years of Sims saves have been erased in less than 1 minute. I was playing with my game and decided to try the new feature. I go to "play Scenarios". It gives option to play with new household or existing household. I didn't want to play with the suggested household they were showing so I erased hoping they would suggest another one as I though it was just a suggestion but with this I ended up erasing all the save folder that I had for years, since I bought the game on Origin.

I am on Mac, the trash has no traces of my previous slot_ files, can anybody tell me if I can recover my files? I don't know if this would be an issue with Mac to recover traces of those files on my Mac... Please any suggestion would help. I had generations of character and story. I

Edit - moved to the Gameplay forum and edited title to better reflect issue (Bluebellflora)

Please open Terminal and copy and paste the following command then hit Enter/Return:

    find ~ -type f -name "*Slot_*" 2>/dev/null

After a little while it will return the results of the search. Please copy and paste the results in a post here.

No it didn't but it only looked in your Mac user account. Try this to search the whole drive:

    find / -type f -name "*Slot_*" 2>/dev/null

    Hi,

Well I am getting desperate as it doesn't look like it found something. I don't understand how it could have been so easy to erase the whole game without really letting me know... It didn't say your whole game will be erased. I though is would maybe erase the family not the entire save file!!!!

Yes, searching hasn't brought up any saves. Do you have any external backups of your files and folders that may have previous saves backed up?

Out of interest, is your saves folder in your Sims 4 folder completely empty? It doesn't contain any files with different filenames? And you definitely don't get the option to Load save at the main menu?

Yes it is completely empty and when I start the game it is only a new party will all my households and lots gone!

My last TimeMachine was from last summer. I don't have any saves on other drives.

    ☹️

Check iCloud although we should have seen a path to it in the Terminal search https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/READ-FIRST-Saves-CC-Mods-or-Library-items-disappeared/m-p/10242133#M45493

I'm going to move your thread over to the Gameplay board for further help and input regarding Scenarios now we've exhausted any possible Mac specific issues. Unfortunately it does seem like you've wiped your saves and there's no getting them back although maybe you could restore an old save from your Time Machine backup?

Your Time Machine backup from last summer is probably the best you can do.  ☹️

If you have some kind of external hard drive or something like that, you can copy your saves over every time you play. (I used to do that manually but now have a script, but it's for Windows.)  You might want to consider that in the future if you're not going to back up your Mac regularly.  ☹️
