game doesn't work whilst mods are enabled

So when I try to play the sims with mods it will not work. And with that I mean that the game loads, but other loading screens do not load. For example trying to travel with your sim, my screen goes grey but I never get the pop up screen that enables travel. I cannot change outfits, it does not load. And the list goes on. As soon as I disable the mods everything works perfectly fine. However, I wanna play with mods which is why I have them downloaded. Does anyone have the same problem, or some help? 

I am working on a macbook, and have previously tried deleting my cache as well as the options.ini
