glimmer brook to magic realm portal load screen stuck!

hello again, I now cannot travel to magic realm to become a spellcaster. how to fix? i am trying to travel as a regular human and have even tried via crystal from another sim. PC.  I get stuck at the loading screen and the very first time the game just crashed at the loading screen.

  • Here's what I do (and I really should write this up and save it somewhere!). It requires Get Together (to use Clubs as a tool) and the mods UI Cheats Extension by weerbesu and MC Command Center by Deaderpool.

    1. First, I set up a spreadsheet with columns for: World, lot, household name, Sim name, and other info.

    In the Old save:

    2. From the World Map, for every household I want in my new save:

    • I write down the World, lot, household name, and Sim names.
    • If I need the edited build, I load it in Build/Buy and save it to my Library.
    • If I want to preserve that household's club info and relationships with other Sims, I load the household in Live mod and write down key info to save for that Sim (who's a love interest, who's an enemy, club names). Typically, I worry only about relationships that really matter to my gameplay.
    • Then I go into CAS for that household and save it to my Library

    3. If any unhoused Sims are transferring over (I don't do this with "special" Sims the game creates), I load them in CAS from Household Manager and save them. If you move them to a lot and play them AFTER this, you can get their relationships without having to worry about them losing NPC jobs.

    4. I do a quick run through non-residential builds to save those to my Library, just in case I didn't last time I edited them, and add them to the spreadsheet

    In the New save:

    5. I go into my Library and place all the builds.

    6. Then I go into my Library household section and place all the Households.

    7. If I'm moving any unhoused Sims, do that into a vacant lot. For the ones I need to keep their NPC job, evict them.

    8. Then I go household to household in Live mode:

    • Create Clubs the Sim belongs to
    • Create other temporary Clubs to have Sims "meet" each other who they should have starter relationships with. Delete the temporary clubs. (You'll need further of these as you go along.)
    • Use MCCC to create family relationships with Sims in other households: parents/children, siblings. (Older genealogy will be lost.)
    • Go into the relationship panel and right-click to open UI Cheats Extension. Set relationship numbers about where I want them. (I find UI Cheats intuitive and nuanced for this part, so I only use MCCC for the part just above.)
    • Tick off on my spreadsheet that that household is done 🙂

    9. Evict the rest of the Sims I want to stay unhoused.

One thing I never bother with because I don't use the feature much is Collections. I think those either don't transfer at all or only in personal inventory, which you'd want to set up before Library saving of the Sims. Might be worth putting goats and sheep in inventory too. I don't move over "special" game-created Sims; I just let the game regenerate those. Also, who your Sims' high school classmates are doesn't preserve across saves; it will randomize again.

I think this is all the steps. It's been a couple of years since I last did it. Last time I had a save corrupt I started over with just a few of my own households and the game ones instead. But I did keep one save going for 8 years before that, moving it, I think, twice, with important relationships copied over!

Hi again, I turned mods off and removed the mods folder but this time the game crashed upon entering portal to magic realm. I also did a repair afterwards but this time it went back to stalling at load screen again. 😢 what can i do now? I want father winter to be a warlock ☹️ and I have a household that will need to go to the magic realm soon. 😢😢

@Vkey103 When you removed the Mods folder, did you also delete localthumbcache? If not, the game will still behave at least partly modded.

You might want to test in a new game as well.

Hi again, yes, I deleted the localthumbnailcache and the new save worked by the way it is just the old save that will not load the magic realm. Thinking I should just transfer all my families to a new save...  Should I also try deleting the onlinethumbnailcache folder too?

@Vkey103 If you don't put your mods and CC back yet and test your old save, does it work? Onlinethumbnailcache won't make a difference.

If you end up stuck starting a new save (and we'll try to avoid this!), I can give some guidance on how to get it as close as possible to your current one -- I've done this a couple of times with my own saves.

"If you don't put your mods and CC back yet and test your old save, does it work?" No, the magic realm still doesnt load w or without cc for old save with deletion of the thumbnailcache. I'll just start a new save becuase now I cant pay my sims bills lol. Seems like the save is getting worse. This is also the save that doesnt "save", can only "save as" and it was doing that b4 mods.

Im dropping mods altogether now and for the new save I'm transfering everyone via the gallery and using cheats to mend relationships but very curious of ur approach to making the new save identical to old one?

But if u still have any advise for the old save I'll still try but it seems like a lost cause ☹️ . Much appreciated😊.
