Are you using and mods in your game ? Is the groom in your active family or an NPC ? If he's in your family, can't you keep him selected the whole time to not have that happen ?
I am not using any mods and yes he is in my family and I am playing him. I clicked on him to stop him from running, but his action said "share cake" which is where my bride was. Than he's gone, and it says he's Tiding up..... super frustrating.
Sounds like a super weird error.
Are you having the wedding at your lot or another one ?
It really is... was also frustrating. I got them married at the local park so a different lot.
Could you try what happens if you do it on your home lot ?
