Help? Sims' main picture disappearing in UI, causing other issues

I've been avoiding asking for help here, and have instead been combing through all of the potential fixes I can find. But I have been dealing with this for almost two months now, the game is unplayable, and I just want it to be fixed.

What has been happening is that in the UI, my sim's main picture will stop changing when they change clothes, change moods, or take a bath/shower. Basically, whenever that picture is supposed to change, suddenly the picture will go invisible. Sometimes the mood will change names but not change color, for example, they will be sleeping but have the green of happiness, all while their picture is still not showing. When the sim's main picture disappears, sometimes their thumbnail in the list will disappear too, and if they were changing outfits, they will not show a change in clothes. My sims will shower in their everyday, go to work in their pajamas, wander around in the nude, basically they just can't change clothes once their picture goes invisible.

When this happens, other problems occur too - townies walking by will disappear and not reappear, and household thumbnails in the neighborhood will never load, they'll always appear as loading. If I try to have my sims travel, or try to save the game, this problem will cause an eternal loading screen and I eventually have to use ctrl+alt+delete to close the game.

This happens in every single one of my saves. New saves will last for quite a while before it happens, but it does happen eventually. Old saves I can't even play a full sim day before it happens, and once it happens I have to just exit without saving.

As for what I've done to try to fix the problem, I have updated my computer and all of my graphics drivers, I have repaired the game several times, I have removed my cache files, I have made sure all of my mods are up-to-date, and I have done the 50/50 method to try to pinpoint the problem. I thought I had narrowed it down several times, and removed what I thought was the offending mod/cc, but the problem continues to persist. I don't know if there's anything else to try, or if I need to just keep trying the 50/50 method until I figure it out.

  • @sappiechan  Does this issue happen with no mods at all?  If not, it's almost certainly a mods or custom content issue, but you may have more than one outdated file.  Since the 50/50 method hasn't clarified things for you, what you can try instead is adding your mods and cc to the game in batches, testing each time.  Any batch that is fine can be set aside for later; any that isn't needs to be split and retested.

Please also keep in mind that you could have a mod conflict, so two separate batches of files could be fine alone but not together.  The 50/50 method works here too, except that once you find one of the problem files, you can keep that in your Mods folder and 50/50 the rest of the files to find the one it conflicts with.

  • did you ever figure out what was causing it? having the same problem after growing together update

    Hi all,

This thread is now a bit older, so it's been locked to prevent necro-posting.

If you're needing further help on this topic, please try removing all your mods/CC from your game first. If this doesn't help, you can create a new thread and we'll continue to take a look with you 🙂
