I can't complete Agnes' "Not so useless?" errand

I have now planted, grown and harvested 5 different pumpkins and yet it still shows the "Harvest a Homegrown Pumpkin" task as incomplete. They have been of varying sizes and quality, including a perfect oversized pumpkin.

Is there anything I can do to complete this? I have every other task completed and yet this one is insisting that I haven't done it yet!!

Okay, it just suddenly worked for no discernible reason!
I left the game overnight and decided to try to use one of my prize-winning pumpkins in a recipe as suggested which didn't work. But then, my 6th batch of pumpkins since starting this errand were ready and, upon harvesting them, it suddenly registered as complete!
So I sadly have no idea how it might help anyone else with this problem, but it did work after 6 batches so... yay?

It has to be a small orange pumpkin. It took me ages to figure out why she wouldn’t accept it. You can’t use fertilizer either. Just let the birds and rabbits take care of the bugs and weeds. Only water it.

First time I've tried this errand and of course my pumpkin turns out white and of course I don't get credit.
Has anyone figured out a way to influence pumpkin color? Mine come out white about 75% of the time and it doesn't seem to matter what I do with them.

I managed to complete the errand after several batches. Task was complete once I harvested a Perfect small pumpkin (batch from patches was mixed between white, green and orange pumpkins so I gave her an orange one). Then the errand completed.
Thank you all for the previous answers! It helped me avoid experiments.

Make sure it's an oversized pumpkin. She accepts those. Put a lot of love into growing it
