The thing is I have game altering mods and most of my sims wear cc as well as having houses with cc furniture If removing it is going to break 90% of what I've built I'd rather just not ever have my sims build a sand sculpture. Not to mention having to find and redownload hundreds of content.

@pizzaperson1000 Try renaming your user folder and let the game create a new one. The old things will still be in your renamed folder.
Then test if the game occurs on a vanilla game. If it doesn't, put only a backup of your save game back into the new folder and see if it still doesn't crash.
If it doesn't, it's a mod and you'll need to find out which one. You can do so by using the 50/50 method: http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Finding_Problem_Custom_Content to find the culprit
Once you found the culprit, you can remove that from the folder you renamed and then delete the new folder you made and rename the backup folder back to The Sims 4. All your stuff will show up again and you can go on from there.
