This LE occurred yesterday in my game. I was playing a household of two Sims at University in Dorms. It is just a normal save I created a few months ago in which to play DU vanilla using no special mods or cheats to affect the university gameplay, like speeding up the degree etc. I do use mods and CC in my game as a whole though, and I did use the Freebuild Cheat to add a couple of bits of furniture to the dorms they live in after they moved in. According to the MCCC LE file generated, the affected sim is one of the two I created and play with, so this differs from other people's experience of using other creator's save files and/or premade sims.
The MCCC advice is to kill and revive the sim or follow some advice mentioned earlier in this thread where the sim ultimately drops out of university. I don't want to do either as I made the sim purposely to play through University and she's currently completed 8 out of 12 modules so that's a lot of progress to lose! If I don't do anything will having this LE break the save file in future? I have a whole storyline planned for the affected sim after she graduates.
If anyone needs the information (or can understand it!) the text from the game LE (not the MCCC version) is below:

@JuniperWhimsy Unfortunately, that degree_tracker error really does not go away. It's likely to keep popping up every time you load that household. We've not seen evidence that it permanently corrupts a save, but I will say that if you run into it enough it because hugely annoying -- I finally started a new save as I seemed to be constantly running into this in my previous one (but it was a modded save and had had at least some Sims cheated in it, and had some Gallery Sims as well, who might have had a uni cheat used on them at some point.)
As for causes, there is a chance that it's mod-caused if any mods are indirectly affecting anything in the degree. As noted above, Gallery Sims can be a cause as well as there's no way to tell what cheats were used on them at some point. CharityCodes has a mod on Nexus that might fix the issue, but it's not been confirmed to work recently and it may not work on all causes of the error.
Otherwise, your options are the MCCC fix or to roll back your save to before the error began.
