Machicolations with grilles for castle builds

Shoutout to Shad of Shadiversity on Youtube. I can't ever think about machicolations without hearing him call it out enthusiastically now. 

I really want to do a castle build at some point and it would not be complete without machicolations. What are they? They are basically murder holes on the upper part of the castle where the crenulations hang over.

Here is a view from the underside. You can see the crenulations at the very top and they butt out from the side of the wall. This particular one has grates/grilles over the holes so people won't fall through accidentally. 

Is it possible to make this sort of feature? Or have corbels like that and have a single floor tile or rug or something that looks like the grate? Something that cuts through the floor/ceiling and allows light to pass through- I suppose similar to a glass floor or ceiling.

Has anyone made something like this already?
