What system are you playing on - PC, Mac or console?
Have you tried a game repair through Origin or the EA App? If not, try doing that then start the game and test to see if that fixes it.
If you play on PC or Mac, are you using mods and CC? If you are, one of them may be causing the issue so, try moving your mods folder to your desktop and testing the game to see if it still happens. Delete the localthumbcache.pkg file before testing. If the problem clears up, then you'll have to go through your mods folder and find the file causing it and update or remove it.
