my sim won't climb ladder

Help me pls! I'm still fairly new to playing the Sims 4, and have only used the ladder twice. Every time I tried to use one tho, my sims would never climb it. that forced me to figure out another alternative... I'm building a tiny home and placed a ladder connected to a one-tile platform. I did everything I could think of, from changing the platform height, the wall height. removing any objects or windows near the platform. lengthening the platform- and nothing. I even did what someone at EA suggested and moved my Mods folder to my desktop and deleted my cache.
