My sims are ignoring me

I am new to playing the Sims 4 on PC-Steam. However, I have played on Xbox. This problem has never happened on Xbox but happens frequently on PC. I keep telling my sims to do an action, and they don't do it. I line up some actions and they just disappear. For example, I keep telling my sim to feed her toddler and she won't. She picks up her toddler and then puts her back down. I have also tried having my toddler ask to sit in the highchair, but it won't work either.
