Punishment or Glitch?

So I preordered and got the High School Life expansion pack, and I absolutely fell for Ash. But she's very straight and, without cheats, isn't even interested in any other gender (fair). However, I still wanted to do a cute couple with her, so I went into full edit mode and changed it so she was willing to explore and experiment. But oddly enough, if I take her to prom, all of the romance interactions just become absolutely unavailable. Even if she's in a relationship with my Sim, I am locked out from doing anything; no flirting, no dating, no flirty texts, nothing.

While I suspect that it's a glitch, it wouldn't surprise me if this was a passive aggressive way to... dissuade people from messing with townie sexualities. So I gotta ask, is anyone else having these problems? Is anyone else seeing any issues with essentially being blocked out of relationships? Is this a bug, or is this some passive aggressive action on the creators part? And does anyone have a solution?
