Newly Broken/Obsolete Game Mods

SEVERELY BROKEN: MALICIOUS SCRIPT MODS

Beginning in mid January 2024, versions of script mods including hidden malicious exe code began to appear on (so far) four sites. These files appear to be from known creators and have been found on three different site. In one case, a modder's own site was used.(Mac users: The .exe included in the malicious mod will not run on a Mac, but you may get an LE.)

KNOWN COMPROMISED MODS

  • "PimpMySims4" (impersonated) – Cult Mod – was on Mod the Sims 
  • MySims4 – "Social Events - Unlimited Time" – was on Curseforge
  • MSQSims (hacked) – on The Sims Resource, Feb. 5-8
    • Mood Cheat Menu

    • Seasons Cheat Menu
    • Weather Forecast Cheat Menu
  • PlayersWonderland (hacked) – Mouth Preset N16 ts4script file – on The Sims Resource, removed Feb. 8

    Updated Game Mods

    New List Features as of Feb. 13

    • Core and Injector Mods list: Some script mods don’t include the script file but use a dependency .ts4script file — these are “core mods” or “injector mods.” Common ones are now listed here with info about the current version.
    • Translations (transl.) and minor updates: Translation-only updates of English-language gameplay mods are now announced, and those plus minor gameplay mod updates are now included on the collected “Updated” list. This will reduce how often you run across unlisted updates from gameplay mod creators you know are normally listed here. I’m not adding updates of separate translated mods; this should be done only by someone who can understand the accompanying posts.
    • Upload sites: “Updated” now includes the site(s) the creator themselves uploads to. Don’t download from other sites.
    • Upload/file date: “Updated” now includes the date of the update.
    • (S) for “script”: This is a script mod, and is meant to have a .ts4script file. If a mod is NOT listed with (S) but has a .ts4script file, do not install it; report it instead.

    Recent Creator News

    • The Sims modding community is sad to have learned that Sims 3 and 4 creator CmarNYC passed away in October 2023. For 15 years, Simmers benefited from Cmar’s long-honed computing skills as she created much-loved modders’ and players’ tools, including the Sims 3 and 4 MorphMakers and Skininators, the TS4 SimRipper, the Sims 3 XCAS core mod, and many CAS sliders. She was also a contributor to S4PE, which likely was used by creators you rely on. Without Cmar’s work, the Sims franchise would have had a much less rich array of mods and custom content. She will be greatly missed.
    • LittleMsSam’s adopted-mod updates that were previously linked from the comments on Mod the Sims are now hosted on CF with post names beginning “Other Mods”. On CF, LittleMsSam’s updates of Scumbumbo mods are on the account ScumbumboCF.

    WARNING: MSQSims Mods

    Although MSQSims herself cleared both Cheat Menu mods for 1.104 and did NOT update them, someone uploaded the same malicious code as previously reported about here to her The Sims Resource mod page, this time with an MSQSims file name.

    Do not download any MSQSims mods until this is resolved, because other mods may also have been reupdated with malicious files. Delete all recent MSQSims script mods (mods that include a .ts4script file), even if she herself updated them or cleared them, and run a virus scan. The Curseforge Github fix should be usable for this version as well.

    (Mac users: The .exe included in the malicious mod will not run on a Mac, but you may get an LE.)

    NOTE: Updated and cleared mod news will now be delayed.

    When mod news returns in full, it will likely be with some change in features.
