Re: Mods and Custom Content Not Appearing in Game

Hey there - gonna tag @Bluebellflora immediately bc you're the Mac expert and I'm sure you can help me with this. Ofc anyone else is welcome to answer. Basically, just an annoying little thing I'm experiencing with my Mods folder, and I'm trying to find out if I'm doing something wrong or if this is just the way things have to be on Mac.

I've had a few experiences with certain game mods (mostly script mods) not appearing (functioning) in-game if they are anywhere except directly underneath the main Mods folder. Until now, I've been told that script mods can be up to 1 subfolder deep in your Mods folder. This seems to work fine for some of my game mods: MCCC is in its own subfolder directly under mods  (Mods>MC Command Center>all the different script files etc). However, some of my other script mods (Andrew's Pose Player and UI Cheats in particular) are not functioning in-game when they are placed in my Mods>Game/World Mods folder.

Weird thing is, UI Cheats worked fine when placed in my Mods>Game/World Mods folder UNTIL I downloaded MCCC and placed that in Mods>MC Command Center. When I noticed UI Cheat's package file was working in-game but the script wasn't, I moved both directly into Mods and everything worked normally again.

Andrew's Pose Player was downloaded after I installed MCCC, and upon downloading I placed Pose Player in my Mods>Game/World Mods folder. Entered the game, and didn't see any options to pose when clicking on my sim. Exited the game, moved the Pose Player package and script files directly under Mods, went back into the game, everything showed up and worked fine.

Since experiencing these issues, I've moved most of my other script mods (Tmex All Cheats, Tmex Build Cam) out of my Game/World Mods subfolder and into my main Mods folder, just to be safe, even though they seemed to be working fine in a subfolder. And any new script mods I've downloaded I've left sitting directly under the main Mods folder as well (WW). These all appear to be functioning normally when directly under the Mods folder.

Soooo all of this to ask: what is going on? Can I have script mods 1 subfolder deep? MCCC is working fine in a subfolder, but UI Cheats and Pose Player are not. Is the issue that ALL my script mods need to be in the same subfolder? I'm sorry if this is all confusing - happy to provide a picture of my Mods folder if needed to clear things up. In fact I'm just gonna attach that now to be safe, in case it helps. Anywho, someone please help me figure this out! Apologies if I'm an idiot and I'm not seeing something totally obvious.

Also - ignore the iCloud downloading icons in the screenshot. I'm on my laptop right now so not everything is downloaded from the cloud, but I run the game from my desktop, and these issues are occurring when all files are downloaded and present as they should be.

I don't understand how your game can see any data in the cloud? The screenshot would indicate the file path is iCloud > Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 when it has to be [local user account] > Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4. Or maybe I'm hopelessly out of date (very possible!).

As for the nestling, I only use one Mod, the no blur one, so really can't help I'm afraid. Maybe something changed in the the latest Mods updates and reverted back to one folder deep only? ☹️

Because of how I have my iCloud settings configured, everything that is in my Desktop and Documents folders on my main computer (my Mac desktop) is automatically synced and stored to iCloud so that I can access it from all of my other devices. So the way Apple has it configured, your Desktop and Documents folders are "moved" under the iCloud heading, to show that they're available in iCloud across all your devices. But technically my files are all still actively being stored on my main computer as well.

Anyways, I appreciate your response, I'll have to keep looking around for an answer! Do you know if there is a discord server or anything else for Mac simmers? Really need to find more TS4 Mac-specific resources.

Yes, I understand how it works but the game looks in Macintosh HD > Users > [your user account] > Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 for the data. You are adding in iCloud to the file path so it gives up and creates a new folder as it can't find one.

There is a Discord that some Mac users frequent yes but I cannot link to it here, have a google 🙂

Edit to add - I play on a MacBook Pro and an iMac and do this to sync my saves, Mods and Tray folders - https://bluebellflora.com/syncing-sims-4-saves-using-the-cloud-and-playing-on-multiple-computers/ it keeps all folders local on your machine but uses cloud syncing to keep them up to date, it's fantastic.
