Re: My game is broken and I don't know why?

@zurokqli2xkiIt could be a cc conflict between two or more mods, and if so, removing only part of your mods will not help. Try to move the entire Sims4 folder to your desktop or other safe place (do not delete it), then start the game and allow it to create a clean game for you. Hopefully that will help. If so, you can start adding back your saves, and if the game still works, add back your mods, but only a few at a time.

If the above makes no difference, you will want to generate and post a fresh dxdiag-file for the more tech savvy people here to have a look at.

@BylineBelife Hi! I removed all my mods at once already. I didn't start a new save file though, I just tested it on the one I knew was broken. Do I have to test on a new one, and if so, is there any way to fix my broken save file?

Also, if that doesn't work, how do I generate and post a dxdiag-file?

@zurokqli2xki    Hello!  Are you still having trouble with your game?  Based on what you've said so far, it seems like that save could be broken or corrupted.  This can happen if a broken mod made changes and the game was saved with those changes in place.  However, before giving up on it, perhaps you could try these steps.

First, move the whole Mods folder to your desktop and let the game generate a new one the next time you launch it.  Next, delete the localthumbcache.package file located in the Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 folder before opening the game for testing.  Then, go to the EA app, click on The Sims 4 game in your game list, click manage and Repair.  Allow the repair to run for all packs.  Even if you get a prompt that the game is ready to play, allow the repair to finish.  Lastly, launch the game and load your save.  Do you still see the problems?  If the game looks fine now, try the steps in the spoiler below for testing your mods to find any that are broken.

    Spoiler

    1. Create a new game for testing so that your current save is left unchanged until you've identified the problem mods/CC.

    2. Create some folders on your desktop; perhaps one labeled "Tested Safe Mods-CC", another labeled "Mods-CC Needs Testing" and one more labeled "Broken Mods-CC" so you know which ones to check for updates. This will keep tested mods/CC separated.

    3. Exit the game if you haven't already, and divide your mods/CC in half; put one half in the Needs Testing folder and put/keep the other half into the Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 / Mods folder.

    4. Delete the localthumbcache.package file, located in the Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 folder before opening the game with the half you're testing,

    5. If the game works with that half, exit the game, move that half to the Safe Mods-CC folder and move the remaining "Needs Testing" mods back to the Mods folder to test (Again, delete that cache file before opening the game.)

    6. Once you know which half is causing the issue, divide those in half, keeping one half in the "Needs Testing" folder and one half in your Mods folder, and test again (delete the cache file each time after moving mods/CC and before opening the game) and moving mods/CC not causing problems into the Safe folder.

    7. Repeat this process until you find all that are broken.

If you're still seeing the problems without mods and after a repair, then you might want to create a new save and make sure there are no issues.  When testing the new save, make sure your Mods are moved to the desktop and again delete that localthumbcache.package file before opening the game.  If everything is working properly, then you'll know there is a mod conflict.  You may try the steps in the spoiler to find those that are broken.
