Re: Need to know a specific mod

Hi, @qlnwipwbppap Problem with knowing which mod it may be, is very difficult.. that is: far too many mods in the SimsWorld as we know it 🐱

The best I can offer is to ensure your friend makes many folders, that way it makes it easier to cull/check.

Also, when adding new mods add a folder with the 'date' until checking the game, you know which it may be (another with, new cc as well).

A few long-term tips for your friend in the dropdown.. 🙂

Spoiler
Apart from culling your folders one by one, or the  50/50 method, to narrow down the broken cc or mod, that is all you can do, as you'll simply need to find the broken mod/cc it and remove it.. Restarting and checking your game each time during the culling process, including deleting the localthumbcache.package in your Sims4 folder each time)

Mods and CC require maintenance to keep them in your game, if the modder has not updated it after a game patch/update it may be broken. The process of culling & removing it, to find the broken mod is the only option though, you'll find it won't be 'all of them' but a few or even just 'one'..

After every patch or game update, this is a necessary process, to add your mods back to your game, folder by folder and starting it each time to test to see if it's ok to play. (nb: you should keep them separated for ease of checking, btw)

Another post at the EA Forum I made,  if you are new to using cc/mods please check here on maintaining your game.

    • I also use Sims 4 Studio for batch fixes, as it solves a lot of problems in bulk (but not all.) It's also available for Mac. And is updated frequently, with pack relevant bug fixes.

Hope this helps.

Sasha.

  • See the thing is, it’s not very hard at all. That’s why people make threads like the one I made, they don’t make threads like this to be told “remove all your mods and put them back one by one” or “make a new folder for this”. There is someone that will know when what mod it is, eventually.

The problem is that people do not know which mods/CC your friend has and since there are very many that all could be the cause it is hard to give suggestions.

You have now waited more than 12 hours for someone to tell you what mod/CC it could be. If your friend instead had used half an hour on the 50/50 method he could have been gaming for many hours instead of just waiting for you to hopefully eventually getting a suggestion your friend could try.

@qlnwipwbppap Hello!  I have to agree with @Sashas0nic and @jpkarlsen in that it is actually very difficult to know what mod is causing the problem.  I did a fair amount of research and could not pinpoint one mod that might cause the issue you described.  The only way to know for sure is by testing them as both helpers have already suggested.

  • This time to further explain why I posted the thread that I did, since the three aren’t seeming to understand and help you further understand why I made the thread I did, I will provide you all with an experience of my own.

One day I was searching the internet for new mods that might improve the entertainment in the way I play my sims. So, I came across this one mod that allows teenagers in sims to have intercourse and that also allows teen sims to “get married” (a promise ring) so when I downloaded that mod, a few days later I came to notice that My adult sims weren’t able to propose to each other. Now I had no idea at the time that it was that specific mod that was corrupting the propose option for my adult sims. So after a few hours of research I found that there was someone going thru that exact same issue I had been dealing with and the best part about it? She knew what exact mod it was that was causing the issue.

so when I say, I stand by my thread, that means that even if neither of you know what mod it is, it doesn’t mean the entirety of the sims community players don’t as well. I know there is someone out there who will know. And even if by the time someone does know, and I don’t need to know what mod it is by then, at least I’ll have the knowledge as to which mod it is so that I could possibly spare someone the time and energy it takes to remove and put back one by one every single mod, and I’m sure you all realize the frustrations of it too if you’ve ever had to do it before.

I am very well, and fully aware that it’s hard to pinpoint what mod. However that doesn’t mean that that applies to everyone. Just because you guys don’t know, doesn’t mean there isn’t someone who does.

@qlnwipwbppap  You're right in that it is possible that someone out there is having the exact same issue.  However, who knows when or if they will see this post and hand you the answer you're looking for.  I spent a while researching this and did not find one thread that addressed the issue you described.  Wouldn't it be better to spend this time looking for the answer though?  Your friend doesn't need to test one mod/CC at a time.  See the method I use in the spoiler.

    Spoiler

    1. Divide your mods/CC in half (maybe make a folder on your desktop to hold the half you're taking out).

    2. Delete the localthumbcache.package file again, before opening the game with the half you're testing,

    3. If the game works with that half, test with the other half. (Again, delete that cache file before opening)

    4. Once you know which half is causing the issue, divide those in half and test again (delete the cache file again).

    5. Repeat the process until you find the culprit.

Although, if you'd rather wait and see if someone will provide you the specific mod, then I wish you the best of luck.

    @qlnwipwbppap

You do not need to explain why you posted this thread. You hoped that you could get a solution in 5 minutes so you could save your friend 30 minutes with the 50/50 method and while that is commendable in itself it has now been more than a day with no suggestion on what mod could be the cause. I really hope that your friend is not still waiting for a solution when you have known about a simple solution for this long.

In the future when you see an error in the game after you recently installed a new mod the first order of business should be to remove that mod and see if that was the reason. If it turns out that it wasn't you can then do other troubleshooting step.

    Hi folks,

The OP doesn't want to manually nail down what mod is causing the issue. Please respect that and allow the OP to wait for someone to potentially come along who is also experiencing this or who may be able to guess which mod may be installed that could cause this issue for them. This is what the OP wants to happen.

You have all done your best to share faster ways to get to the bottom of this, that's all you can do. 'XP' to all for trying to help. <3

Thank you for respecting the OP's wishes,

    EA_Lanna
