Re: Not sure where to find sims from a sim dump

@yannabug24    Hello!  The term "sim dump" was new to me so I did just a bit of research.  If I'm understanding this correctly, Simsulani shared a collection of sims they created for others to download.  It seems these are typically downloaded as a .zip file which must then be unzipped and then the unzipped files must be placed in your tray folder.  The file path would be Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Tray.  Have you done this already?

Edit: If you are using a PC or Mac, you should be able to right click and extract the files if they have a .zip extension. If they have a .rar. or .7z extension, then you may need to use a third party tool, for example 7-zip, to extract the files before placing them in the tray folder.

  • The tray files weren't zipped, but they were in a subfolder. I took them out to see if that would work but I still don't see the sims in my library

@yannabug24    Okay, good that you moved them out of the subfolder.  I'm not sure but I don't think tray items can be in subfolders.  Do you mind telling me the name of the Simsulani "sim dump" you downloaded?  Please don't put the link here though, just the name so I can search it.  I would like to test it in my game to see if it works.

@yannabug24    Thanks for sharing that.  I found them! :-)    You said you added the tray files.  Did you also add the Mods folder to your Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 / Mods folder?  In order to see the household in your your Library, you'll need to check the box for "Include Custom Content".  Please see more detailed notes below.  Hope this helps but please let us know if you're still having trouble.

This is what I got when I downloaded and extracted the files.

So, adding the tray files is just one step.  The downloaded folder also contains a "Mods" folder which needs to be in your Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 / Mods folder.  I renamed that folder SimsulaniMods to make it not so confusing.

One note of caution; I noticed this creator has included a great number of package files across many folders and subfolders.  Please keep in mind that this has the potential for causing issues in your game if any of these files conflict with game updates.  Hopefully that's not the case but I thought I should mention it.

Once you've added the Mods folder to Mods and the tray files to Tray, open the game and check your Library.  You'll need to check the box for "Include Custom Content" for the household to display.
