Are you resizing the rocks using the bracket keys? Are you placing them with MOO on? Are you using any of the movement short cuts like holding the Alt key when placing them? And are the rocks you are using in the build catalog, or have you pulled them from debug using the unlock cheats? Some resized objects will cause graphic effects at times. It's pretty hit and miss so you just may have found one that does it.
