When I click on the family I want to play with, it brings me back to the world’s main menu! Help!

I am not an expert and I am assuming one will come back to you. But, if you are using mods/cc - this is an issue other players (including myself had) and you should be on this page.

The August 2025 patch (1.117) broke many, many script mods, with this being the symptom, and these are still the ones most likely to be your problem. Use the Previously Broken mods and CC for many (not all!) mods that have no updates. Use “Updated” in the Broken/Updated Mods list for patch 1.117 as a second starting point, but note many were updated for patch 1.118 and/or are not yet cleared in the current list (for links, see Mod & CC Issues: START HERE).
I’m moving you into the pinned thread for this issue. Please do reply with an @ and let me know if you don’t have any mods or are actually on console. Also if it's ONLY the previously played household you can't get into but you CAN get into other ones.
