Re: TS4 mods not containing a .package file

@jr49j6dxk76j   Hello!  It seems odd that you saw a .application folder.  Usually zipped files will have the .zip extension.  It's possible the download did not properly complete.  Maybe try downloading the mod again.

Although, you mentioned you moved the zipped folder into the mods folder.  However, the folder must be unzipped and the contents [.package and/or .script files] placed into the mods folder.  Most newer computers have a utility to unzip these and you should be able to right click on the folder then click on the extract all option.  You'll get a browsing window to select the location.  Mine shows a default location with the new folder being added to the downloads folder.  Click okay, then move the .package and/or .script files to Mods.

If you don't have an extract option, you may need to download a utility for it like 7-zip or WinZip.

I hope this helps but let us know if you're still having trouble.

    hey, thank you for the reply.

    i had usen winrar to extract the zipped folders. once opened in winrar and/or extracted the mods would only contain a .txt file and a .application file.
    im not sure if the mods are a bit sus or if my computer is doing something weird.

    @jr49j6dxk76j     That is strange.  Did you try downloading them again?  While there could be an issue with your computer, I think it's more likely a problem with the mod files or download itself.  Do you mind telling me the name of the mod?  Please don't post a link, just the name.  Also, if it is rated 18+, you can send it to me in direct message here.  I'd like to test it in my game.

    @JonaO703 Pretty much any furniture set from the sims catalog. dining rooms, kitchens etc...

    Dual Channel for The Sims 4, dining room set.

    tulton bathroom, bathroom set.

    SUHD 4k curved smart tv.

    goldis bathroom.

    the list just keeps going. i have about 40 i downloaded and then didnt discover this issue until i went to install all of them. so now im here with about 40 mods that i cant do anything with.

    @xSIRR_   @jr49j6dxk76j    Thanks for that.  I went to the Sims Catalogue and found the same issue.  I admit I know nothing about that site but I am hesitant.  I don't know why it's giving  .exe files.  I strongly recommend not opening any .exe files unless you absolutely trust the source.  Actually, Windows Defender removed the 4K TV file which contained a trojan virus.  I'm sorry you downloaded so many but I do suggest looking for these CC on a different site.

    For example, since the Dual Channel dining room notes stated it was located on The Sims Resource, I tried getting it from there.  It downloaded and unzipped with the normal .package files.  So, perhaps you could try that site instead.

    @JonaO703 thank you, ill have a look on a few other sites. i just found other sites didn't really have much compared to the sims catalog. i also looked on reddit and a few other places and people were saying it was trusted, safe etc.. so its really weird.

    at least i now know its definitely the site/mods, so thank you.

    @xSIRR_   You're welcome!  I really can't speak to the trust level of the site.  It's just that the experience I had with the two downloads I tried made me feel uneasy about it.  Perhaps others have had no problems.  I still don't know why the content downloaded as executable files.  I don't think that's normal.  At any rate, I hope you'll be able to find what you're looking for.  Happy Simming!

    I decided to look into this as the sims catalog (not catalogue) is rated as reliable. Are you sure you go to this url? https://thesimscatalog.com

    The site does not host the files themselves but redirect to where they are hosted. For the Dual channel dining room that is the sims resource.

    @jpkarlsen    That is the url I used.  I misspelled it in my post.  Have you tried downloading files from them?  It does not redirect.  I just tried getting another CC from Sims Catalog and got another executable file.  For this one, it does not list where the original CC is hosted.

    Also, I did mention the Dual Channel dining room was on the Sims Resource.  That's where I got the files I showed in my screen grab.

    Yes, there currently is an issue with redirecting. It just says "loading". You can circumvent this by rightclicking on "Download" and select "Open in new tab/window". What browser are you using that gives an exe file.? It may need updating.

    @jpkarlsen    You're right.  A right click on the download button and then open in new tab will open the appropriate website.  Left clicking download actually downloads a zip file containing the executable.  The problem is with the website, not the browser.  I'm able to download the package files directly from the actual host sites.

    @JonaO703

    I mentioned the browser might need an update because neither of my browsers that are fully updated gets an executable file,

    EDIT: It appears that they have fixed the redirecting issue now but the site is very slow at the moment.

    @jpkarlsen   My browsers are fully updated.  I didn't get the executable files from the host sites, only from Sims Catalog.  I'm glad they fixed the issue.

    @JonaO703

    I'm aware that you got it from sims catalog. I was just trying to find a reason you and the OP got that when I didn't. Would you mind testing if it is fixed for you.

    @jpkarlsen    I just tested the site and nothing has changed.  I searched for the Dual Channel CC that OP mentioned.  When I clicked download, I got a zip file.  When I unzipped it, there was an executable file but Defender removed it immediately.  However, I was able to right click to go to the Sims Resource, download and unzip the package files as normal.

    Edit: That was using FF, so I decided to test with Chrome.  I clicked download but it "Failed - Virus detected".

    @JonaO703

    Weird, both Edge and Chrome now properly redirect for me. Perhaps you should report the issue to them (Help | Contact Us) so they can look into what the problem is. To me it sounds like you somehow get the CGI script used to redirect as a download. This would be flagged as a virus as they are not allowed to run outside the browsers "Sandbox".

    @jpkarlsen   I just tried it again and the Download button is redirecting for me now, although the site is really slow loading pages at the moment.  I don't know what was causing the issue but I'm glad to know what is supposed to happen for future reference.

    @xSIRR_ @jr49j6dxk76j   I thought I might tag you again to let you know that the Sims Catalog site seems to be working now.  I feel a little bit better about the site now that I know it should redirect you to the host site and not actually give you a download as JP mentioned.
