romance bar is not showing up

Hey there, whenever my Sim manages to strike up a romantic interaction with any Sim, I can see a heart with a + sign above my Sim's head, but the romance bar doesn't show. I've tried deleting all the mods I've got, and it seems that the problem is with the MCCC and WW. When I delete both, the game runs perfectly. How can I fix this? ☹️

  • @AeronXell Check that you have the most recent versions of your mods and that you don't have duplicate older versions. Double check installation instructions when you're downloading the most recent copies. For non-18+ mods (18+ mods are not supported here), you'll find update news on these forums, pinned in this topic. The current one is here, and you might want to check for other mods that could use an update even if they haven't caused you issues yet: Broken/Updated Mods

Note that if you remove a mod that other mods are add-ons to or rely on, it can seem like the one you removed is the problem, but your real problem could be still in your Mods folder. If you ever need more detailed instructions on how to figure out exactly what's broken, those are here: 50-50 .

Thank you for your reply! Manually I checked all the modes I have, unfortunately nothing has changed. Moreover, as a result of my countless attempts, the game stopped seeing mods (although it had seen them before), and now neither clothes, hairstyles, nor shoes are visible in the game. I don't even know what to do anymore ☹️

  • I reinstalled the game and all the mods I have, and it's not working ☹️

@AeronXell Okay, let's get you back working in some organized steps. Follow this:

First we'll clear a blank slate but save your content to put back in:

    1. Drag your Mods and Saves folders to your desktop and delete the file called localthumbcache.
    2. Start the game and exit. This makes new folders for you.

Then we'll test mods and CC until you have a working test save:

    1. For mods that are listed in Broken/Updated Mods , delete your old copy from your desktop Mods folder and download a new one. Check the installation instructions, and install in the new Mods folder, not the old one.
    2. Check the "Core/Injector/Testing" list in Broken/Updated Mods for any mods you use, and do the same as in #1 for those. The list there lets you know which are the current versions. If you didn't already have ModGuard, include that.
    3. Now open Sims and test in a new game. Save that game as "Test Save". Make sure your romance bar is there. Easiest way to do this is make a quick married couple in that initial CAS and stick them in a cheap house.
    4. Okay! Your mods in the working Mods folder are working, and what's left is the rest of the old desktop Mods folder. Start adding those in batches. Test between batches. If you find a batch not working, remove part of the batch. When you identify a broken mod, check for an update at the creator's site. If there isn't an update, delete the mod.
    5. Add the CC back in last.

When you're done, you can put your old saves back in the new Saves folder. If you saved previously when you'd removed CC, so you have bald Sims, you can restore a previous save point: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Mod-CC-Issues/I-need-help-fixing-my-save/m-p/12640403#M42078

Thank you for your reply! Yes, thats what I did in the beginning when trying to find the issue. I deleted everything from my mods folder, I also reunistalled the game just in case; I dont have many mods, so it wasn't too hard updating them all, and I noticed that my game had problems only when I had both MC and WW in my folder. If I remove them, it seems to be working perfectly fine. That's why I am so confused. I made sure that all these mods are updated and placed in the right folders, so there shouldnt be problems and yet this game has some.

@AeronXell I think you might need to head for support to creators' forums if you're getting unexpected conflicts between their mods. And test those two mods without the other mods in there, as suggested earlier. One of them has other mods that depend on it, so when you remove it, you're making it as if you removed those other mods. It could be one of the other mods that's your problem. You could test with an empty folder, then add only the two mods that seem to conflict, then start on other mods.

  • I'm having the same thing today since updating my game. I'm playing a rotational dating challenge type save. The first two sims I played had no problems, but the third did. He was getting romantic with a girl and no matter how many romance interactions I did, the romance bar did not show. I was able to get them to have their first kiss, and woohoo was an option too, but he couldn't ask her to be his girlfriend. I cheated to try to increase the bar but nothing I tried worked. I'm repairing my game now and will update if that fixes it when I next play.

  • This might be an old thread but I had the same issue and managed to fix it. Basically, my game was corrupted in some way, it was probably due to a Mod ( that I've deleted long ago, but a folder was created in my saves file). What I did to fix it was,

    1. make sure the game is not running, exit it if so.

    2. Copy and paste my save file, tray file and Mod file somewhere safe (computer or hard drive),

    3. Delete the Sims 4 Folder in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 (I play on Mac so check where to find this file on whichever platform you play).

    4. I started running the Game fresh, don't worry it will create a new Sims 4 file in your EA folder, brand new.

    5. I created a quick new game and tested out with two sims, make sure they're not partner, fiance or married.

    6. Once your new game is set up, use the cheat code to increase and decrease the friendship relationship between these two :

    Shift + Control + C > testing cheats true > ModifyRelationship Sim1FirstName Sim1LastName Sim2FirstName Sim2LastName -100 LTR_Friendship_Main

This should modify their friendship bar as a test so you know your code line is right, now try it with the romance cheat :

    ModifyRelationship Sim1FirstName Sim1LastName Sim2FirstName Sim2LastName 100 LTR_Romance_Main

If you see the Romance Bar filling up, then it means your fresh new game is fixed and it was either a mod or a corrupted file that was causing the issue

    7. Exit your game and copy and paste your save files in Folder in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > saves, make sure to only put files started with "Slot_" and nothing else,

    8. Run a test without adding your Mods and Tray files, with the same cheats as step 6.

If it works, congrats you fixed your game, now you can start adding your Mods and Tray files carefully, for me it worked but if a certain Mod is at cause, then you should repeat the step 6 as much as you can while removing and adding Mods until your game is fixed.

I know it is a tedious work but for my gameplay I had to fix this as I am playing Fiona and Shrek with a enemy to lover storyline lmaaoo. Couldn't pass on this, but I am glad it's fixed. Hope it helps.
